ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL TO MABEL (Hubbard) BELL Beinn Bhreagh Laboratory, Nov. 7th, 1895. Dear Mabel:

This is a specimen of writing with home-made ink. It will be transferred by pressure to a plate of home-made gelatin — and then we will so whether we can make copies — a la Hektograph plan.

The gelatin was made by mixing together glue and molasses — don't remember the proportions — they were noted in Volta Laboratory Records. The ink has been made from Turkish Dye — presumably aniline dye — by first moistening with cold water — and then adding boiling water. Here goes! Goodbye.
