ECONOMICS: PARAGUAY

MELISSA H. BIRCH, Associate Professor and Director, Center for International Business Education and Research, University of Kansas

THE SURGE IN RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION of Economics literature that occurred immediately after the fall of the Stroessner dictatorship seems to have run its course. In the last few years, there has been a noticeable drop in publications by Paraguayan authors writing about the Paraguayan economy, while the literature published in the US on the Paraguayan economy continues to be slim. What is conspicuous in this year's collection is the presence of funded research studies sponsored by foreign or international agencies and realized by a combination of Paraguayan and international scholars. The topics are widely varied but often have a policy focus.
