What is happening to retailers, wholesalers and producers--the way out; an address,

This work acknowledges the intense competition that independent stores and wholesalers face from chain stores, which are called the "conquering distributor." The author, the department-store giant Edward A. Filene, contends that the rapid spread of chain stores into new territories and new product lines has become inevitable because of their delivery capacities, services, advertising power, and ability to buy in bulk and sell at a much lower price than their competitors. He suggests that both wholesalers and individual retailers develop similar advantages by mass buying and selling. Wholesalers should use their established structures to become mass-purchasing centers for numerous stores, and individual retailers should form chain relationships with each other to secure chain-store advantages while retaining individual ownership.
