Scott Farnham graduated from high school in three years, then decided to enlist in the Air National Guard to earn money for college. He was deployed twice to the Middle East, once to Saudi Arabia for three months in late 2002, and then to Tallil Airbase, outside An Nasiriyah, Iraq, from September 2004 to March 2005. Farnham worked security at the gates and on the flight lines. He also was on security teams that escorted high-ranking personnel from Baghdad elsewhere in the country. Between his 12-hour shifts, he got to know soldiers from other countries in the coalition.
