Dear Mom and Dad,
I received your letter last night of December 29. You made a mistake, I didn't leave home on the 29 th. I left on New Year's Eve, the 31 st. I can't forget it.
Well, I had a birthday last week. Ho Hum! I'm getting old. I left home at twenty. Wow!
We're going through some basic training here. Today we have to go through the gas chamber, I think it's a lot of horse shit.
Ben Klekot was a cook at Ft. Riley.
The only reason we don't have lights is because the generator fouls up.
The men with 29 points rotated this morning so I'm number five on the battery roster. I hope they hurry. Some of the men go on an east coast shipment through the Suez canal. It would be a good trip, a person could see a lot but it takes 45 days. That's a long time on one of those little tubs they call troop ships.
Cardinal Spellman was about twenty two miles from us. He had Midnight Mass in a different Corps area.
I'm off of my jeep. They're trying to get me to drive and old junk. I don't want to. We'll see what happens.
That's all for now.
Love
Eddie
