Dear Mom and Dad,
Just yesterday I said it would be bad if it rainedso it's raining! I'm the one with the least amount of time so I have to pull all the duty details. This morning I was on the trash detail. The mud is over our ankles. After the trash was picked up in the area, one of the drainage pipes was clogged with mud and ice so they put me on a detail to dig it out. We dug to the pipe and tried to tow it out with a 2 1/2 ton truckno soap.
We were still working on it when chow time came. I ate chow and now I'm here on "CW" watch and I am glad!!
Some other poor sucker will have to struggle with it. It's raining but still its cold. While working on the pipe, I had to stand in about 6 inches of water. I hope my feet, shoes, and clothes dry while I'm in the truck.
Still no mail. I hope I have some in the 4:30 mail call. Pretty soon!!
I may be the man with the least time now in the radio section but by July I'll be the only one left from the present crew. All the rest will rotate by then. One man went already and another is due to go next week.
Sometimes I wonder if I want hot weather. They say the mosquitos are terrific. The same goes for the rats. We started putting the rat-poison out already.
I would really appreciate it if you sent me a "Harmonica". I've got all the time in the world to practice.
I went to a movie last night and saw "The Snows of Kilaminjaro". It was pretty good. I also bought a box of cigars yesterday. I'm really enjoying them. Did you ever get that record "Mom & Dad Waltz"?
If you can't make out my writing, you're not missing much.
