Hi Tom,

How have you been? I hope you've written. I'll bet none of your brothers and sisters have. I'll know in a few days.

I'm pretty tired now. They keep me busy digging ditches or sending messages on the radio. I've only been here a short time but already I don't like it.

How's television? Any good? Have you got a patch like this [drawing of 7 th Div. patch] I think you have, that's the division I'm in. It's the 7th Infantry Division. This division hasn't been in the United States for about 15 years.

I'm sending you a 5 cent piece of paper. That's the way they pay us. I had some new money but I spent that. How would you like to carry money like that around? It won't work in a candy or Coke machine. It doesn't jingle.
