Veteran served in the Iowa National Guard from 2/16/1916 until 2/1917 when he joined the U.S. Army and served from 7/1917 to 5/1919. Then he again served in the National Guard from 5/1919 until 12/14/1922. Veteran was promoted to Second Lieutenant after WWI while he was serving the Iowa National Guard. In addition, veteran served in the Mexican Campaign.
