Veteran's company was forced to surrender to German SS troops within a month of their arrival in Europe while defending four buildings in Villers-la-Bonne-Eau, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. Veteran was forced to march 407 miles around Germany and held captive at Bad Orb (Stalag IX-B) for four months until General George Patton's 3rd Army liberated the camp and prisoners were transferred to Camp Lucky Strike.
