passengers swarm into the bars for beer. I succeeded in getting a pint of ice cream.

So far California has been disappointing. We slept thru a good deal & most of what we saw looked like Iowa or Ohio except for the last no. of miles when we went thru a {valley} section of beautiful golden hills - golden with yellow wheat & hills that merged continually with each other. We're still in the shadow of those hills.

I hope the family can locate a place for us in the City soon. With the war ending, it's a good idea to settle back there as soon as possible. I guess you can write to me at the above address. I'll remain in this barracks for 3 days & then be transferred to another barracks which may be in the same battalion. I miss both you & Rema & am awaiting word from you eagerly. I'll bet the astonishing war news has cheered you up considerably!

Love

Irv
