Friday, 10 Aug. 45

3 pm Pacific T.

Dearest -

Right now we're playing the old Navy game - waiting & waiting. We're just loafing in our temporary barracks - of course, I drew an upper bunk - waiting for what next & no one seems to know. This is the first respite since we arrived at Shoemaker. Our train pulled into the Pleasanton Station about four hours late & there we waited a half hour for a Navy truck to pick us up & bring us to the base a few miles away.

Shoemaker is a sprawling, rams{c}hackle place - all the buildings have that tinderbox look & seem to have been erected overnight like a frontier town. Our first impression of it was the sight
