10 000 feet

Enroute to

Midway.

Dear Helen,

Well, here I am sailing along smoothly at 10,000 feet on the way back to Midway and then P.H. in the morning.

Impossible to date this because I don't know whether we have recrossed the international date line and lost the day gained on the trip west Monday. I'm quite a globe trotter now, don't you think? Been across both the equator and the international date line, all in the short space of six months.

I'm sitting up here where I have a very good view of clouds and ocean for quite a few miles around. Before I can crawl back in my bunk and catch up on my sleep I have another hour to kill up here surveying the instrument board in the tower, (mechanics station) telling the pilot thru the microphone how much gas we have, how hot the oil is, how hot this and that is, how hot the coffee is and, will you send up a cup please etc?

Yes, sir right away sir.

This is the fifth straight day
