Dear Herb:

I just got back to my room from the supply room. I took your foot locker and duffle bag down to be sent on to QM. I'm sorry to be so late about getting it started to you, but I've had a hell of a time finding out how to send it to you. Edmonds wouldn't have anything to do with it at Chateaudun, so I had the MAC officer call the 177th Gen Hosp. but they had no provisions for sending it either. Edmonds is Asst Gp S-4 here now, so I just kept after him till he found out something about it. It had to be inventoried, and lists made out of the contents, as I did it rather than trust anyone else with it. I had to take out all the Govt property, such as blankets, sleeping bag, the .45 pistol, and so on, as it will be inspected again by the customs officials at the Port. I removed one item that belongs to you - the ring that was in your foot locker. If I'm not mistaken, that's a pretty valuable little piece of goods, and I'm pretty sure it would never have been left
