My darling,

I just came back from walking in the rain. It seemed comforting when human tears fail. Today I received your letter; telling me you are in the hospital at Le Mans.

I read the words a thousand times before they made any sense. Darling, I am so sorry. I am half crazy wondering what? how serious - & how painful?

It was not too much of a shock for I just knew something was wrong. In your recent letters, you seemed to slow down so - no metion of news or activities. See I know my "popin leimer" [?]

Dear one, all this time you must spend lying there waiting and resting - think of me and of us together.
