April 12, 1945

My Darling:

As you can see I recovered my pen. However if you get a chance to get me a standby it is still on order.

Today I went into town to see the sights. My first impression was the fact that the French women are infinitely much better dressed than the English. And this in spite of German occupation (Perhaps because of?) They seem to go in for terrifific [sic] hats. I'd like to buy you a had direct from France, Paris perhaps, but I don't quite know what kind you would like. Anyhow from casual observation
