A handful of snapshots and sketches are all that comprise the collection of Joseph Parrino, who served stateside with the Army's Signal Corps during the latter days of the Korean War. But Parrino's sketches are both specific and universal. They offer a glimpse into the everyday life of the 1950s GI, but the subjects--the mundane work, the subordination of the individual to the group, the repetitive routines--apply to any soldier in any era. Parrino succinctly captures a feel for the soldier's life in a way that might elude a writer or interviewee.
