El Rancho de las Los Golondrinas:
Traditional Hispanic Living Museum
A traditional Hispanic living museum, El Rancho de
las Golondrinas strives to hold, manage, and preserve for the
public properties of historic and cultural interest, specifically
Rancho de las Golondrinas; to preserve generally the historic and
cultural heritage of northern New Mexico; and to make these
properties available to the public for enjoyment and study. It
works to preserve the typical northern New Mexico landscape with
farms and villages and their inhabitants' lifestyle from the early
Spanish colonial period to the beginning of the 20th century.
Through living history, the Rancho de las Golondrinas Museum hopes
to foster understanding of, respect for, and price in the language,
culture, traditions and history of Spanish Colonial New Mexico,
particularly through its use as an educational facility welcoming
teachers and students for tours, workshops, and seminars.
Las Golondrinas celebrated New Mexico's Cuarto
Centenario in 1998 and 1999 with the exhibit "Don Juan in the
kingdom of New Mexico." The exhibit recalls the coming of the first
Spanish colonists to the territory, led by Don Juan de Onate. Other
events at Las Golondrinas include an August Summer Festival, an
October Harvest Festival, and a bilingual Christmas
celebration.
