Chasco Fiesta
This 10-day celebration held each March in New Port
Richey honors Native American tribes and traditions. Named for
Queen Chasco of the Calusas, it features an Indian powwow and
pageant, river and street parades, a king and queen coronation
ceremony, a ball, a carnival, arts and crafts, musical
entertainment, and food. 78 years old, it is Florida's longest
running festival. The project includes a video prepared by high
school students, an essay, photographs--including several from the
original 1922 fiesta--news articles, programs, brochures, and
souvenirs and memorabilia, including two crowns from past
coronations.
