A Day in the Life of the Columbia Pacific

On May 4, 1999, 76 students from six high schools shot over 2500 photographs documenting the people, economy, and environment at the mouth of the Columbia River. The project was a collaborative effort of public and private organizations designed to give the students an opportunity to examine and reflect on the richness of their community and region. The photo-journalism staff of The Daily Astorian trained the students for their task. Of the photographs taken, 70 were selected for publication in a special insert in The Daily Astorian and The Chinook Observer. The result is a published documentation of the region in the late 20th century.
