Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle: The Oldest Book Club in America

Founded in 1874 as an educational experiment in out-of-school learning, the Chautauqua Institution is located in southwestern New York State. It shares the ideal of lifelong learning with the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle (CLSC), the oldest continuous book club in the United States.
