Joslyn Art Museum: Jazz on the Green
This free concert series is held on the Joslyn
Green (the Museum's east lawn) for six consecutive Thursdays each
July and August. Presenting this uniquely American art form in all
its diverse styles-- including mainstream, swing, big band, and
fusion--the series began in 1984 as an educational outreach program
for audience development. The Museum remains open through
intermission so that concert-goers may view the collections and
special exhibits. Featuring local and regional performers, the
series is well-attended, averaging 5,000 per concert or 30,000 for
the series. Many concert-goers take the opportunity to share a
picnic supper, contributing to the event's air of informal
intimacy. Jazz on the Green is documented in photographs, slides,
text, and an audio tape.
