Bonnots Mill

Months after it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Bonnots Mill was caught in the flood of 1993. The project will document the hardships endured and the community spirit that helped the residents overcome adversity and rebuild their town. It is the successor to two previous villages, French Village and Cote Sans Dessein, both of which succumbed to river encroachment. The first European settlement in the area, Cote Sans Dessein was begun as a trading post by French-Canadians for dealing with Osage, Shawnee, and Delaware Indians.
