Hamtramck Polish Day
Celebrated on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday ushers
in Lent, Polish Day (Paczki Day) is the Detroit area's
answer to Mardi Gras. The celebration is named for the confections
similar to jelly-filled doughnuts that are sold by the millions of
dozens each year. Paczki were introduced to the area by
Polish immigrants who settled in Hamtramck.
