Islenos Society of St. Bernard Parish
El Museo de los Islenos documents the history
and culture of the Spanish settlers known as islenos
(islanders) who came to St. Bernard Parish from the Canary
Islands in 1799. Their role in the parish is important both
historically and today as they continue their traditional way
of life centered around fishing, trapping, and boat
building.
