Poole Harvest Daze
This festival has been held the weekend after
Labor Day in the small rural community of Poole since 1988. It
was specifically organized to establish a community fund to
assist persons in emergency situations. Events include a flea
market, arts and crafts sales, horseshoe and washer pitching,
musical entertainment of various types, a parade, a dance, and
Kid Power, a musical performance by local children.
Local organizations support the event by contributing to the
cost of entertainment and other expenses. In a community with
a population of only 300 and no municipal government, 99
individuals and 24 organizations have received financial
assistance from the Harvest Daze fund in 12 years. The event
has served as a model for festivals now held in neighboring
communities. It is documented in background text, photographs,
and news clippings.
