Trigg County Country Ham Festival
The county is noted for its long tradition of
country-cured hams, which many claim are far superior to the
commercially processed product. The craft is celebrated in this
three-day festival held in Cadiz since 1977. A judging for grand
champion country ham is a constant feature of the event, which also
includes hog trough races, a greased pig contest, sack-a-pig, Kiss
a Pig contest, pig races, and an appearance by Miss Triggy Piggy.
Musical entertainment, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, and food
booths are other attractions, and the festival culminates in a
grand parade. It is documented in historical text, photographs, an
audio tape of festival highlights from 1994 to 1999, programs and
brochures, and news clippings. An actual slice of ham was also
submitted.
