Ravinia Festival

The Highland Park summer home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Ravinia celebrated its 60th festival season in 1995, when major renovations of the facilities were undertaken. Best known for its world-renowned summer concert series, today it offers concerts, ballet, drama, and educational programs year round. Through community outreach programs, it now has impact far beyond the 36 acres of landscaped parkland. It was originally created in 1904 as an amusement park and destination point on the Chicago and Milwaukee Electric Railroad. Ravinia is documented in text -- including the biographies of three different festival directors -- slides, a promotional video, the book Ravinia: the Festival at Its Half Century (published in 1985), posters, and a number of concert series programs, including one from 1926.
