Tulare County Fair

The County of Tulare is the second richest agricultural county in the state of California and, therefore, the nation. It provides an opportunity for people from throughout the state to learn more about the county's agriculture and the dairy industries. At its inception in 1915, the Tulare County Fair was a small "sales ring" of area farmers interested in promoting better cattle and hog sales. Through the years, it has survived a devastating fire, delinquent assessments, union fights, and alleged breaches of contract to emerge, 85 years later, a vibrant regional event, still agriculturally-based, still family-oriented, as when it began. In addition to agricultural and livestock events and exhibits, there are numerous forms of family entertainment, including a parade, craft exhibits, clowns, and rides. The theme of the 1999 Fair was "Your Window to the World," celebrating the diversity of agriculture worldwide. The project is documented with a report, photos, newspaper articles, and an entry catalog, schedule of events, poster, and video from the 1999 Fair.
