International Food Fair
This annual event sponsored by the Tracy Historical
Museum celebrates the diversity of ethnic groups in the district by
presenting their food ways. Begun in 1993 as a fund-raiser by the
West Side Pioneers (Tracy's historical group), the International
Food Fair was inspired by the town's residents that represented
many nationalities. Local restaurants were each asked to supply a
different ethnic cuisine to sample. The Food Festival each year
also includes a home tour; in 1999 the historic Henry Fisk home was
featured. Entertainment of various countries is presented at the
event. Monies raised help to maintain the Tracy Historical Museum
and run a program to educate third-graders about the history of
Tracy. West Side Pioneers volunteers do historical tours with the
children, teach them quilting, punching tin and making butter. The
project includes text, a history of Tracy (founded in 1878), a
Tracy Historical Museum brochure, promotional flyers, newspaper
articles, snapshots, and a video of the 1999 International Food
Festival.
