Decoy Carving as Folk Art
This project depicts and describes the art of decoy
carving and its history, and profiles contemporary carvers. Now
sought by collectors, the hand-carved floating sculptures have been
used by hunters to attract waterfowl for more than 100 years in
California's First Congressional District. The district lies in the
path of the Pacific flyway, the seasonal migratory route of more
than 20 percent of all waterfowl in North America. Project
documentation comprises a bound booklet with 41 pages of text with
integrated photographs, copies of newspaper articles and of
promotional materials for decoy shows.
