Merle Montgomery (b. May 15, 1904, in Davidson, Oklahoma; d. Aug. 25, 1986, in Chantilly, Virginia) was a music educator, composer, author, editor, administrator, translator, lecturer, and concert pianist.
The papers highlight Montgomery's career and leadership roles in several organizations, programs, and projects in support of music, education and the arts. The collection primarily contains business papers and materials related to Montgomery's long association and presidency with the National Federation of Music Clubs, her presidency with the National Music Council and association with the International Music Council, career with music publishing firm Carl Fischer Inc., management of the Bicentennial Parade of American Music, scholarly work on the Scribner Music Library, leadership roles with Mu Phi Epsilon, Musicians Club of New York, New York City Opera Guild, and the New York Philomusica Chamber Music Ensemble, and her alumni activities with the University of Rochester and Eastman School of Music.
