He was involved with the commissioning of an unusually large number of new musical works as president of the Chamber Music Society of Baltimore from 1954 to 1993, and board member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from the 1960s to the 1990s, during the tenures of music directors Peter Herman Adler, Sergiu Comissiona, and David Zinman.
