<mods:abstract>Miriam Levinsohn Cole began her dance studies with Martha Graham at the age of twelve and, after attending New York University for one year, she transferred to the University of Wisconsin as a pre-med student. After six months, she changed her major to dance and graduated in 1946. While at the University, Cole and four of her friends formed a group known as the Wisconsin Dance Group, which toured throughout the U.S. (As well as Cole, two other members of the Group went on to join the Martha Graham Dance Company,Mary Hinkson and Matt Turney.) Cole joined the Martha Graham Dance Company in 1952 and remained until 1958.</mods:abstract>
