<mods:abstract>P. G. (Pelham Grenville) Wodehouse (1881-1975), though primarily remembered as a novelist, wrote lyrics and librettos for almost 40 musical comedies between 1905 and 1934. These shows were performed in both London and New York, and his principal collaborators were librettist Guy Bolton, and composer Jerome Kern. His lyrics were noted for their combination of wry wit and conversational phrasing. The unique material in this collection includes 3 letters from Wodehouse to George Grossmith discussing trouble with Florenz Ziegfeld, and 4 letters to Guy Bolton. There is also sheet music for approximately 100 songs from 31 musicals, and librettos for some 11 musicals.</mods:abstract>
