                    <mods:abstract>Robert Whitehead was one of the best known and highly respected producer/directors of the mid and late 20th century.  Among productions with which he was associated were the first presentations of William Inge's Bus Stop, Tennessee Williams' Orpheus Descending, Arthur Miller's After the Fall, and the first presentations in the United States of T. S. Eliot's The Confidential Clerk, Jean Anouilh's The Waltz of the Toreadors, Terence Rattigan's Separate Tables, Robert Bolt's A Man for All Seasons, Friedrich Duerrenmatt's The Physicists, and Harold Pinter's No Man's Land.  He was a long time partner in theater production of Roger L. Stevens, whose collection is also in the Library of Congress.</mods:abstract>
