<mods:abstract>Vivian Fine was a piano prodigy, and at the age of five became the youngest student to be awarded a scholarship at the Chicago Musical College. At 11 she became a student of Djane Lavoie-Herz, a former student of Scriabin, and at 13 studied with Ruth Crawford, later with Roger Sessions and George Szell. She was a member of the Young Composer's Group and participated in the first Yaddo Festival of Contemporary American Music. Her chamber music, operas, and large-scale symphonic and choral works are represented in the collection.</mods:abstract>
