- Lester Horton (1906-1953) is regarded as one of the founders of American Modern Dance. A dancer as well as choreographer and teacher, he founded the Lester Horton Dance Theater, the first permanent theater in America devoted to dance. The materials in the collection document the workings of the Lester Horton Dance Theater as well as the personal and professional life Horton.
