- Filmed in 1936 by Katherine Dunham, this clip shows a couple dancing in a public dance hall located in Kingston, Jamaica. The film is a compilation of travel and dance footage in Martinique and Jamaica. The footage of Martinique features scenes of the capital of Fort de France as well as the towns of Saint Pierre and Vauclin. The dance footage includes extensive scenes of the combat dance ag’ya and dancers performing the béguine. Filmed in Kingston, the Jamaican footage includes scenes at a public dance hall and the dance known as Shay Shay.
