Montevallo College Night Program, 1989 |
University of Montevallo's College Night
Performed at the college's homecoming
celebration in late February, College Night presents a pair of
rival theater productions staged by two teams, Purple and Gold, who
begin putting the shows together the preceding fall. The shows are
fully original, from the scripts to the sets and costumes. Athletic
contests are staged as well, and the winning team is chosen by a
panel of judges. The 80-year-old tradition began as "college
stunts" from each of the four classes. A former team leader
characterizes the event as "the crest of the wave of college
spirit."
Project documentation includes a narrative about the
history of College Night; thirty 8 x 10 color photographs; past
leaders, winners, dedications; quotes from those involved in
College Night; a section on College Night from the University
Centennial History; an audio recording of the Gold Side and Purple
Side songs; special editions of the
Alabamian, the school
newspaper; a copy of the 1997 school yearbook,
Montage;
programs from various years of College Night; and College Night
memorabilia, including tee shirts, socks, pennants, stickers, and
pencils.
