Significance: The Nuttallburg Mine was one of the earliest mines to open in the New River Field. The Retarding Conveyor is one of the longest ever constructed and perhaps one of the few still extant. The Nuttallburg Mine Complex is representative of the rural industrialization and is typical of the extractive industries located in the New River Gorge and West Virginia.
