SUMMARY: This frontispiece drawing for the book Drylongso shows Lindy, a young girl whose spirited character enlivens the travails of her parents, herself, and the folk hero Drylongso. Author Virginia Hamilton (1936-2002) collaborated creatively with leading children's book illustrator Pinkney (b. 1939) to relate the story of a rural African-American family caught in the throes of a major drought in 1975.
