SUMMARY: This drawing for the book Drylongso shows the folk hero running to keep ahead of a dust storm about to overtake him. Author Virginia Hamilton (1936-2002) collaborated creatively with leading children's book illustrator Pinkney (b. 1939) to relate the story of a rural African-American family caught in the throes of a major drought in 1975.
