Our Motto: Nothing like a good chunk of history to start the day.
Introduction
Today in History (TiH) is a Library of Congress presentation of historic facts highlighted by items from the American Memory collections. Each day an event (or several events) that occurred on that date from United States history are presented in a brief multimedia essay. The purpose of this Style Guide is to serve as a reference tool to writer/researchers involved in the creation of TiH features.
This Style Guide serves in the context of a number of other tools useful for Web page creators at the Library of Congress and
within the National Digital Library:
- LC Web Tools: Web Development Resources for Library Staff
Provides access to useful Web development resources including Library of Congress Internet policies, HTML guidelines and
specifications, and editing and validation tools.
- The Library of Congress World Wide Web Style Guide
Provides a general design framework and file structure for staff preparing content for the Library's Web Site. The recommendations in the guide were written to encourage creativity while ensuring that all Library Web projects are in compliance with Library Internet policies and practices, provide access for the widest possible audience, and are clearly identifiable as Library of Congress information (as required by LCR-112).
- NDL Editorial Handbook
The handbook provides a guide to NDLP editorial policy and practice, and is designed to serve the needs of team leaders, division editors, curators and others involved in creating public documents used as aids in accessing American Memory collections.
This Today in History Style Guide exists as a section contained within the Handbook.
