The Presidential Election of 1960

Two Nominating Conventions

Political conventions have been part of the presidential nominating process for many years, but what actually happens at the conventions and who attends has changed over time. Below are pictures of the Democratic Party's national conventions in 1928 and in 1960 found in Taking the Long View, 1851-1991. Carefully compare the two pictures. What similarities do you see? What differences? Look particularly for evidence of differing technologies at the two conventions. How might changes in technology have affected the 1960 election?
