Searching homeSearching Text Collections
Introduction | Exercise 1 | Exercise 2 | Exercise 3 | Exercise 4 | Exercise 5

So far, you've seen collections composed of visual or audio materials. American Memory also has collections with the added feature of searching the full text of the documents. You have a choice of searching either the descriptive information or the full text of the collection in most cases. (We'll learn a few exceptions in Good News; Bad News II).

We'll search the descriptive information, explore full text searching, and compare the results.

  1. Exercise 1 - Keywords
  2. Exercise 2 - Choosing Full-text or Descriptive Information Searching
  3. Exercise 3 - Chunks of Text
  4. Exercise 4 - Full-text Search Options
  5. Exercise 5 - On Your Own!

Directions:

  1. See Making the Most of the Workshop for tips.
  2. Complete the exercises, then go to the Descriptive information and full-text searching - which one when? Use your notes and comments to "Points to Ponder" to describe what you've discovered.
