Introduction | Exercise 1 | Exercise 2 | Exercise 3

Many American Memory collections have bibliographic or descriptive information on each item. InQuery searches against this information to find your search request. In this activity, you'll learn strategies for choosing successful search words and phrases while looking at photographs of the Civil War and turn-of-the-century America. Then we'll turn you loose to search for your own lesson materials.

Directions:

  1. See Making the Most of the Workshop for tips.
  2. Complete the exercises, then go to the discussion, Search Words and Phrases - What Works?. Use your notes and comments to "Points to Ponder" to describe what you've discovered.
