You've now discovered that - (good news) many collections have descriptive information, other finding aids, and hot-linked subject terms to help you complete your search, but (bad news) not all collections have the same level or type of search support, or use the same vocabulary words!
American Memory is your great grandmother's trunk - a treasure trove complete with scratchy
records, letters with beautiful penmanship and language of the day, momentos, and
photographs of unknown ancestors. It is an archive, not an encyclopedia.
Because each collection is unique, differences occur in what can be searched. In this activity, we'll become more
familiar with different collections while sampling films of immigrant arrivals and depression-era photographs.
