Introduction | Exercise 1 | Exercise 2

What brings you to a library or even a telephone book? Just as a telephone book offers different ways of finding information, so too does a library.

This activity will help you become familiar with different aids to finding information, including search features, available to you in American Memory. Understanding what these finding aids (see Glossary) can and can not do will be more meaningful if we choose a topic. For this exercise, we'll use Civil War.

Directions:

  1. See Making the Most of the Workshop for tips.
  2. Complete the exercises, then go to the discussion, What to Use When?. Use your notes and comments to "Points to Ponder" to describe what you've discovered.
