The Library of Congress is pleased to participate as a sponsor of the
Digital Libraries Initiative - Phase II announced by the National Science
Foundation (NSF) in February 1998. In addition to NSF, the Library
of Congress joins the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA),
the National Library of Medicine (NLM), The National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA), and the National Endowment for the Humanities in
sponsoring this second phase of the Digital Libraries Initiative.
The Library of Congress will make collections already
digitized available to successful grantees wishing to use our
materials as part of their research proposal. The Library, as a sponsor,
will not partner with any prospective grantee organizations.
The Digital Libraries Initiative - Phase II is intended to extend the
research carried out during the initial awards announced in 1994, then
sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency, and the National Aeronautical and Space
Administration.
More information on Phase II of the Digital
Libraries Initiative is available from the National Science
Foundation.
