1979

Received the Kennedy Center Honors from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., along with Martha Graham, Henry Fonda, Ella Fitzgerald, and Tennessee Williams.

1986

Received the National Medal of Arts from U.S. President Ronald Reagan and the Congressional Gold Medal from the U.S. House of Representatives.

1990

December 2: Aaron Copland died at North Tarrytown, New York.
